The Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) is an international order with a philosophical-humanitarian foundation.
The Order was founded in 1819 in Baltimore (USA) by Thomas Wildey. In the Netherlands and Belgium, there are about 100 local Odd Fellow associations, which we call lodges. This word comes from the English 'lodge', which originally meant tent or shelter. In the Netherlands and Belgium we have about 2800 members, divided into lodges for men and lodges for women.
The members call each other brothers and sisters.

Worldwide there are hundreds of thousands of Odd Fellows who differ from each other culturally, religiously, socially and politically.
The lodges form a worldwide association of people who want to contribute to greater harmony among people, to tolerance and compassion. The logo of the Odd Fellows consists of three interlinked links, which symbolise Friendship, Love and Truth.
They are the ideals we want to pursue in our daily lives.

Within the worldwide philosophy of the Odd Fellows, people with very different backgrounds feel at home.
The Order is not dependent on or bound to any particular church, spiritual movement or political party.
